Pontification....

Alright friends...it may or may NOT have been brought to my attention that I perhaps write TOO MANY words.  As in, my blogs are a bit LONG, wordy, if you will.  So now, I'm having a complex.  Maybe people don't want to read my posts, 'cause well, they require a time committment and perhaps a snack break to get through.  My OWN SISTER admitted that she just skims them sometimes (which has therefore led to her missing some comic gems) and it hurt my heart a little. So, what do I do?  The problem is....I don't really know how to remedy this situation.  I am just descriptive.  I HAVE mentioned my love for words, fancy words, descriptive words, silly words, WORDS....right?  Yeah, i thought so.  And I have just never been able to figure out how to say a lot in a little.  That would be my sister Dixies forte.  Genius, I tell ya.  So pipe up, chime in, tell me..are you in agreement here.  Should I make efforts to whittle away at my verboseness?  I really need to know.

Anywhodles...I am going to ATTEMPT to work on this.  Starting with this rundown of bits going on around here this week.  I Begin:

Maggie and Auntie Julie

Maggie has been CRACKING me up lately (and really, look at that adorable face):

*Playing dress up the other day with Max.  She found her "magic wand" and proceeded to go around all day and say to me, or whoever was being addressed..."Your MAGICSY".  "Oh yes, your magicsy, I will get that."

*Today while playing with their lego blocks, we were making towers.  And mine was of course super awesome and the best.  I turned it into a gun (only because THEY turn everything into guns by themselves, I didn't teach that to them) and I "shot" it.  Maggie immediately said, "well watch this, I will make an awesome gun."  Which she did, and then she shot me...dead.  But that was immediately followed by a new tower being built.  She grabbed a random block piece and said. "Mommy, this is Princess jasmine, and she is stuck up in the castle."  "Help, HELLLLLP."  So, i swooped in and saved her.

*You tell her No.  She can't have a drink of your drink, or she can't have a bite, or she can't have a sucker for breakfast, or she can't come out of her room ONE MORE TIME, even to pee...whatever it may be.  And her respone is to cock her little head, look up at you through her eyelashes, point her finger, holding it close to her face and make a scrunchy little smile and say "I just only want ONE little bite...just one, but I want it a BIG bite." "I will just be REALLLY careful."  "I will just go reallllly fast, ok?"  And really, WHAT are you s'posed to say to that?

I'm reading this book....why aren't you?  It's the 4th in a series of 4.  They're awesome and amazing!  GET IT NOW!!!!

I was awarded this lovely award from the beautiful Kate at Mommy Monologues.  Thank you so much Kate for liking me, and believing in me.  This makes my heart HAPPY!!!

Max

My bubbers makes my heart swell.  No really, how could I possibly love him more?
He's sick.  Not like stay up and cry about it, or even act sick sick.  But just more like, green boogery nose of never ending flow, eyes oozing green crap and ears oozing goo sick.  It's so sad really.  Doctor tomorrow.

He is now insisting on doing EVERYTHING himself.  Washing himself in tub, wiping down his highchair with the dishrag after eating, wiping his own nose, getting in his highchair, putting on his shoes, combing his hair, etc.  He sweetly says "I DO IT, I DO IT."  So, I mostly oblige.  Thankfully he's not attempting to really dress himself...'cause let's face it, I just do NOT have the patience for that.

Won't lie...he's pretty obsessed with that pretty red tutu.  Almost daily he asks to play dressups. And one day...he napped in the tutu.  Yeah, Jere doesn't approve.  I say, he's a baby, it's gonna be FINE!  Besides, at least he keeps his diaper and shirt on.  My nephew ran around in a pink tutu free ballin it for at least a year(he was 3).  And yes, it was disturbing.  he got over it.

Been out at Jeres "academy" three times this week blocking a number for his music theatre camp.  It's a sweet group of kids.  Been fun.

Mopped the floor twice.  Vacuumed once.  Made my bed every day.  Picked up the toys 4000 and ONE times, folded laundry, took out garbages, and still.....my house is a mess.  I can't seem to get motivated to do all cleaning things on one day.  So, it happens in shifts.  Less effective!

Our house is CRAWLING with ants and spiders.  You know it's not a good thing when you sit down on a chair, look down and there are ants crawling up your shirt.  Or you're sitting at the kitchen table and literally watching 4 spiders run around on the wall next to you.  I feel itchy and freaked out all the time!!!  I HATE these freaking creepy crawlies.  Wish the stupid exterminator could actually take care of this problem.

Didn't get to go to Utah.  Feel VERY sad about this.  Will try to go sometime before school starts.  NEED to go!

Oh, and a big FAT thanks to my Mom for totally throwin me under the bus in the comment section.  So nice how she said...those shorts (referring to the offending 5th grade yellow shorts) FIT when we bought them.  Maybe it was one to many cheesecrisps throughout the summer.  Nice Mom, REAL NICE! Blame it on my overeating.

Fine, even when I try to write less.....FAIL!!

I still have a whole thing to write about SYTYCD.  But, I'll shut it and go to bed.  You'll just have to wait on that.  Sad aren't you?  Knew it.

Magicsies and minions,

Allyson

I am sure you probably don't want to hear this... but I think your wordiness may be genetic. Remember those gems of Shumway Family Letters back when Grandma Louise Shumway was alive? There was actually a 3 page limit on those letters because Grandma could go on for 10 pages... no joke... and of course had such difficulty editing down her thoughts into manageable bite sized pieces.

BUT, we loved her, and we love her too. Yes, for those like me who are slow readers, we MIGHT on occasion skim, but I would say most of the people who read your posts do read them in their entirety.

On the Yellow shorts thing, maybe your MOM shrunk them in the wash!! Toss the blame back in her court :D just sayin.

Yeah, SYTYCD, if Tony doesn't come back then I want my Billy boy to win the whole thing. :)

love ya, and love that you religiously read even my random and unpredictably scheduled blog posts. xoxo

i admit that i skim your longer posts in the mornings, (which is what i did today.....i was running out of time before the kiddos woke up and i had to go do my morning run/death trek) but i'm always back later in the day to give it my full attention! i love that you are fabulously verbose and you crack me up....so the longer you write, the more i giggle. i see nothing wrong with that!

i can't WAIT for your sytycd post. i'll probably email you later today with my thoughts on last night (just in case someone dvr'ed it and hasn't gotten the chance to watch and see what happened)....but let's just say that i yelled a lot when a certain person was put in the bottom three (the last one) and yelled again when they announced who was going home. *sigh* i swear....if i start driving now i can probably be in your neck of the woods by next wednesday to watch it with people who actually recognize the global importance (nay...the UNIVERSAL importance) of this show.

Allyson, I love your words....all of them. So what Dixie can say whatever she wants on her blog, you say it how you want on yours. (Love you Dixie!) I love the way you describe and say thing, it makes me laugh. And I look forward to your posts every day. If anything, there are not enough words coming out of your mouth sista!

You keep your blog however the HE** you want it. It's YOUR blog. If people need to skim, so be it. If people have time to read posts in entirety, better for them. I've done both and I appreciate your blog because it's YOU.

I love your words, how you express them and how many there are. I look forward to your posts and hope you don't change a single thing!

I love your posts!! I have the exact opposite problem people are always telling me I text like a boy and I am the worst to talk to on the phone because I am so short and on my post at best I write one full sentance!!! SO I admire your so be it LONG POSTS!!!

LOL I think it's funny that you are caring about this at all!! This is your blog, it's who you are, and so what if someone (including me) skims some of it. *chuckle* Its obvious that you aren't really losing readership. I love your random posts the most. Sure, all the "day-to-day stuff" about the kids is fine and cute, but your true genius is your take on life and all those thoughts you spit out about it. It's your humor at yourself and how you live day-to-day. Don't change a single letter of that!:-) And apparently a famous character in a novel reads your book--wow!!

Keep your blog anyway you want it! I've done both-skim and read entire posts- but most of the time i get a smile on my face when I see that you have updated. I make sure I have time to read them because truly they make my day. Remember how I laughed so hard I cried about the yellow shorts?

My mom told me that I was very verbose on my blog. I decided I didn't care because the blog really is for me-not everyone else. I have made two books out of my blog 9a year for each) and Wyatt and I love reading them. So, I consider my blog a journal. So there, mom! Verbose=good and I'm doing my family history!

I think your posts are PERFECT!!! It keeps me up to date on how things are working in the Van Patten house seeing as how I'm never here and usually always the last to find out about things - and usually find out by reading the blog. HA!! Love your posts and even I read the long ones... Sometimes in shifts, but they do get read. =)

Love your blogs! Personality, personality, personality! Have to admit I skim, at best, the SYTYCD posts. :( Don't watch the show so don't know what it's about... But oh, well! The rest I LOVE!!! Love that you're keeping such a great history! You'll be forever glad! Didn't mean to throw you under the bus...But it was kinda one of "those" summers. You were still cute! Keep the blogs coming. I'm like Jere. I find out about the MVP's this way! :)

Wait! What????? Did someone actually say they found your musings too lengthy? How can that be?

No Friend, I have never once read an entry of yours which found me regretting the time spent or wishing for time off for good behaviour.

Here's to verboseness and three cheers for flowery prose!!!!! Keep up the fine work!

I agree! I am also a wordy wonder, so I completely understand. Don't know where we get it from, but we definitely got it! :) So to set the record straight, it was obviously your sister DIXIE that said you were too wordy, as Dana and I have just said otherwise. Right?? :) haha Keep up the great postings. Especially when they include my super cute daughter! (Or me!)

Oh, and P.S. The Fablehaven books are a 5 book series, not 4. And Brandon Mull came to visit our school and said Kendra was totally a character based on his sister. But maybe the name Kendra came from your friend? Either way, GREAT BOOKS and everyone should read them!
