SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

Do you see that face? See it, the drama, the TRaaaaGEDY, the "how can you be so cruel mother" look on her face. For the love of all...THIS is what I have to deal with, look at anytime I EVER try to do Brooklyns hair. As you can see, Maggie is totally ship shape, hair done, looking fab. She was happily playing, chirping about the house, doing her thing. But the MOMENT I call Brooklyn over to do her hair, THIS is what I get.

Weeping, whaling, gnashing of teeth. She literally ran at Brooklyn this time and hit her with both hands and yelled NO. Then, she tries with all her might to put herself between Brooklyn and I. She hits, she cries, she pushes...it's all so ridiculous! WHAT is up with that? I really need some insight here. What is happening in her little brain that is 'causes such epic melt downs? No amount of consoling, reassuring, loving touches works. The only thing that works is for me to just not do Brooklyns hair. So, since that isn't an option, we deal with little miss bawly pants.

Just wanted to show a picture of her later that day, happy as a clam, playing in our dirt patch. I really do love this girl a ridiculous amount, I just don't love her bully tactics.

Any words of wisdom from you seasoned parents out there?

Well, I don't know if I quite fall under the "seasoned parent" Category, but I am sure it is just Jealousy. I am sure that Maggie just thinks that "doing hair with mommy time" is some special bonding time she shares with you, and does not want to share you with Brooklyn because she has her own mommy.

This is of course a juvenile behavior, but of course she is a juvenile, so what can you do? I guess you could do Brooklyn's hair right after you lay Maggie down for a nap and then put Brooklyn down so she doesn't watch... but otherwise you will just have to wait until she realizes that it isn't a big deal... if your patience can last that long... I know mine runs thin at times :)

You know I have no words of wisdom unless it's something like, "ah, just beat 'em". :) But I love that she's so freaking stressed out about it. What a total poo-head. It's hilarious. If it were me I'd probably be heartless and do Brooklyn's hair multiple times in a day simply to taunt. I'm sure she'll get over it. You should check on Babycenter online or something. They have wayyy more constructive and "psychologically/emotionally" constructive advice to give than me. :)

I am a seasoned mom (only in the sense that my children are all grownups now - except a few of them at times-teehee), so here is one idea to try - have Maggie be your assistant. Sit her on your lap, have her hold rubber bands, clips, the comb, etc, as many things as she can hold in her hands, and of course, talk her through the process. "Help mommy" will be your constant chat, as you both "do" Brooklyn's hair. You probably won't have to do this very often before she gets it!
I just realized I did that with Lana when Staci was a little girl, because Lana always wanted to play with the baby. Maybe Maggie will grow up to be a hair stylist too!

PS - love your posts - you make me laugh. It is 7:04 a.m. here in Texas, and the word verifaction for this post is "notter". Funny word! It sounds like "not HER", as in "Not sweet Maggie" when I read her meltdown tactics.

I say let the little bully cry.

aww maybe that is what was going on at our little New Year's get together. I can only dream of O WANTING me to do her hair, but that is quite the sad face on Miss Maggie.
Maybe its her way of dealing with all the stress of sharing you with Max. Sorry no advice for you.
I love that you say not doing Brooklyn's hair is not an option. It would be if you had my child (who is currently standing on the top of my couch banging her head against the wall).
Supermom I tell ya...

I am with Lana. I think she will get over it. I was hoping you would post Brooklyn's picture so we can see the reason for your daughter's breakdown. You know see if it worth it. :O}

I hate to tell ya, but there are no words of wisdom worth anything, cause as sure as you figure you've got the answer, they prove you wrong! At least she's not coming at Brooklyn with a pop can lid ready to "bleed her head" cause she won't go away like Eric did to you! But wait! Wasn't Brooklyn there first?!?!? Just cause she didn't have the umbelical cord!!! Whatever! Poor Maggie... Whoever said life was fair! Poor you! Love ya both,
Mom

Oh that is a hard one, but I am with Lana too, she'll get over it.

I hope you got my email, also you can do it on cvs.com, which I kinda like better, cause it gives you different options.

I swear I have endured atleast 6 months of melt downs, hair pulling, leg grabbing etc between LIncoln and Griffin over who gets My mommy, my mommy. Both wanted to be carried to get the sippy cups, try pouring 2 sippy cups while carrying 2 kids, Good Times! Atleast they both look awesome. You really rock as a hair stylist!

Ha! I say let Brooklyn push her back a few times. She'll learn. You don't mess with the big girls. :) j/k But hey, thanks for making sure my girl gets to look cute everyday, too!
