Fast forward 16 years and a lifetime and here we were. It was a Monday night and I had no idea what to make for dinner. When suddenly, I just HAD to have a German pancake. I hopped on ye old Google and typed it in. The recipes were plentiful. I couldn't even decide, it took awhile, but I finally chose one and went with it.
What is a German pancake you ask? Why it's just like a really thick crepe. It's curvy and curly and baked and delicious!
We enjoyed ourselves a delightful German pancake, or Dutch baby, whatever you prefer.
SO, come Friday morning when we had Jayce as our overnight guest...I decided to bust out the fun new pancake again. I felt so gourmet, hehehehe. And wouldn't ya know, Jayce the ever picky eater ate it all.
See, fluffy, curvy, curly, YUM!
Why thank you Ikea for making our breakfast colorful.
I served it with a little powdered sugar and syrup.
Yes, Maggie did insist on the Pj pants and polka dots, why do you ask?
Now, because I care about you, and I KNOW you're all dying to get your hands on some of this goodness, I am going to give you the recipe I liked BEST, with pictures of THEIR pancakes, which look way prettier than mine. I know, I know, I'm such a giver like that. Now, don't ever say I didn't give you anything.
Yield 2 9-inch pancakes.
4 eggs
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup flour, sifted
2/3 cup milk
2 tablespoons soft butter
Heat oven to 400°F. Butter two 9-inch cake pans well ( put a TBSP of butter in each pan and stuck them in the oven while it preheated). Put eggs in blender (i used a hand mixer) container, cover and process at “stir” until light yellow in color. Push “mix” button, remove cover and add remaining ingredients; process until smooth. Pour into prepared pans and bake 20 minutes; then reduce heat to 350°F and bake 10 minutes. Serve with lemon slices, powdered sugar and butter if you follow recipes to the letter, raspberry syrup if you’re my mom or maple syrup and fresh berries if you're us. OR if you're MVP's just plain powdered sugar and or some syrup.

And hers is WAY prettier than mine.
Bon Apetit!!Or should I say Besitzen!

thanks!! I really am going to try this! It doesn't look to hard
OK, it's time to finally make this. I am obsessed with German pancakes. Ever been to the Original Pancake house? One of their specialties is German Pancakes, or Dutch Babies, as they call it.
It takes longer, but I will always wait. It's the only thing I've ever had there.
I haven't had a Dutch Baby in a long time. It's time. Thanks for the reminder.
Ummm YUM! Want to skinnify! But actually it has a lot less bad things than I expected from the picture!
girl....you had me at "powedered sugar and syrup". i can be on the next flight and be in mesa in the morning (sounds like a country and western song!). i fully expect to be met with one of those german pancake delights :)
WE call those "Walls of Jericho". My recipe is:
6 eggs
1 C flour
1 C milk
1/4C sugar
1 tsp vanilla
a few shakes of cinnamon
(and if you have it, some orange zest)
4 Tbs butter.
Preheat oven to 400F, and melt the butter in a 9x13 pan. While the butter is melting, mix the other ingredients with a hand mixer or blender. Pour the batter into the pan of melted butter and bake for about 15-20 mins.
It's also really, really good with canned cherry or blueberry pie filling.
Mmmm. We call it hootenanny. We have it for dinner when Dennon's out of town (he hates breakfast for dinner).
Maggie is hilarious. And definitely destined for greatness! And you have such a beautiful voice, too. Jealous!
I am pregnant, please come make this for me. And don't judge me when I put ice cream on it.
